It is necessary for those people whose Aadhaar card has been made for 10 years to get it updated. Aadhaar update is free till June 30, after which a fee of Rs 50 will be charged by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). There have been changes in the biometric details of children like photographs, iris and fingerprints taken 10 years ago, hence it is necessary to update their Aadhaar.
In such a situation, people are busy updating their Aadhaar before June 30. The website is not working due to increased load on the Aadhaar server. There are queues of people at Aadhaar centers.
Also, those whose mobile number and address have not changed will also have to update Aadhaar. Most of the people are applying to update their mobile number and address. Apart from Aadhaar centers, Aadhaar update facilities are available in every post office.
Can update from mobile also
- Open UIDAI website https://uidai.gov.in and click on My Aadhaar tab.
- Select Update Your Service option, Open Update Address in Your Aadhaar link.
- After login, you will get the option to update address, fill new details and upload necessary documents.
- If the free service is not for you, then the fee payment option will appear, after which a Service Request Number (SRN) will be generated.
- With this number you can track Aadhaar update requests.
As soon as you login to the website, OTP comes on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar, the website opens only after entering it.
Why updation is necessary
Aadhaar card is required for banking, education, voter ID, driving license, medical insurance, getting checkups done in government hospitals, and even availing the benefits of government schemes. If there is any mistake in your Aadhaar or the address given in the old Aadhaar card has changed, there is a problem regarding the date of birth, then it will have to be updated. Biometric details like photo, iris and fingerprint will have to be updated by visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
